TSU & ATSU Students--Welcomed Guests

posted Oct 4, 2011 7:33 PM by Andy Jackson

‎80 members of TSU pledge class of Alpha Phi Omega came to play on Sunday afternoon, and tonite ATSU 1st year med students wandered thru the maze, then created corn hole competition to take a break from the Anatomy/Bio Chem regiment. We are so fortunate to have quality students living in our community and sharing a portion of their lives with us here in NEMO. We appreciate their friendship.

International Students (Language Company)

What a pleasure for us to host the international students who are becoming proficient in their English skills.  Their activity of "getting lost" in the maze whet their appetite for good food cooked on the open flame pit!!!  Of course the cattle and the horses provided amusement for the students as the animals come running at the familiar sound of the corn cannon feeding corn out in the field.  A competitive tournament of corn hole finished their evening of fun in the country---in a foreign land--in an agricultural setting--yet bonding relationships with people who share common values of education, preservation of the environment, and friendship.  Again, we are blessed.

Area High School Students Visit

We are in full swing with our 2011 fall season and enjoying visits with lots of guests at Country Connection.  Last nite we hosted a District 3 Meeting of Future Business Leaders of America--80 area high school students from about 10 schools held their business meeting---then enjoyed hot dog roast and evening activities of the maze, corn hole, straw pile, etc.   What a neat group of kids along with their advisors--certainly can be proud of these future leaders, as they are polite, courteous, and full of fun!  It is a privilege to be in the network of young people who are ambitious and eager to achieve and we applaud the adults who guide and support the student's educational paths.  Bob and I are blessed with the opportunity to connect with such high quality people.  We hope they will plan a return visit to Jackson Acres.

Salute to LaPlata Schools
The 2011 Jackson Country Connection corn maze/pumpkin patch is paying tribute to the LaPlata R-2 Schools with recognition of the school’s strong scholastic, athletic, and value driven educational programs. This year’s six acre maze is cut in geometric design with the letters “LHS” in the center and the waypoints in the maze have informational questions regarding alumni/student accomplishments. The Jacksons are requesting individuals in the LaPlata community to provide historic & current news articles and photos of sports teams and individual academic, athletic, and professional accomplishments of LaPlata High School alumni and current students. These items would be copied and displayed during the fall season. The Country Connection, located on Nature Lane, will be in operation for group and organization visits (by appointment) September 17-October 31 and open to the public Saturdays and Sundays. If anyone has photos and news articles to offer for display, please contact: Andy Jackson at 660-349-0988 or e-mail at andyjack@marktwain.net.

This past week has been busy with lots of little bodies from HeadStart and Schuyler County Schools, Clover Classics 4-H, church groups, and we look forward to the weekend with TSU students and church youth.  Mother Nature has challenged us with wind and is now moving us into the last days of our season with morning frosts--the bright floral colors are fading, the air is crisp, yet warm, and the sun continues to shine.  The last of the pumpkins yearn to leave Jackson Acres with guests and celebrate the end of fall in a new home...We encourage families to come and enjoy a brief time in the country with us--make a memory and count your blessings of the good life...

Farmer Bob has two small bonfires burning--I stand at the Red Shed and see dust on the top road and cars are coming down the lane to the parking lot.  Families are arriving and kids with wrapped gifts in hand are racing and excited to come to Maya's Birthday Party!!  Soon the Bounce House is filled with little jumping bodies--I hear shots from the corn cannon, the straw is flying at the Straw Pile and the voices send shouts of glee and fun.  Eighty Delta Zeta's from TSU are roasting dogs and making s'mores and sharing time with pledge sisters--It is a beautiful day at Jackson Acres and hopefully these guests will take home with them an appreciation of God's gift of soil, air, water, and the ability of man to provide food, fuel, and fiber for our people.

What fun we have had with all the groups that have come to Jackson Acres this weekend!  The Medical Center Residents/Interns/Docs and families, Truman State students, Bevier Scouts, LaPlata/Edina Kindergartens, family birthday parties, ATSU students, East Center 4-H Club, and the great bunch from the new MOM's Club with all the little people!!!  Beautiful weather and fun people spending some time connecting in the Country-- And one of the fun pleasures is our daily early morning jaunt to the field to pick corn for ammo for the Corn Cannon to prepare for all the guests that want to target practice--it is a simple life and we are blessed to connect with such good people who come to visit.  Come See Us!!

What a FUN Nite with Green City FFA group!!! On Oct. 11, Jonna & Rick Ayers brought 67 teens who are full of positive energy, who are involved in leadership development, agriculture education, and will be successful in life.  We had such a good time hosting this great bunch of kids and hope they enjoyed their nite-time maze, activities, and evening campfire.  Jonna & Rick are certainly making a difference in the lives of these kids and we applaud all they do as they shape and influence these future leaders.  Service to humanity is the greatest work of life.

The 1st Methodist Church of Kirksville Youth pastor, Lynae & her husband Barry, brought many neat kids into our lilfe on Oct. 6, and we continue to enjoy the memory of their visit to our farm.  As they had finished their play time in the country, they gathered for a group photo, and included us in that pic.  They shared a song and a prayer of rejoice for a good time together and many blessings in this life.  They truly were a blessing to us and this is the reward that Bob and I receive by becoming acquainted with wonderful people.  Life is good.

As some have come and seen our "farm jokes" posted, we are always seeking new jokes, riddles & puzzles.  A tip of the hat and thanks to local pharmacist Craig Harris for his contribution to our collection of humor---"What does a pig use for a rash?''-----Answer:  "Oinkment"!!!   We like it and hope you do not mutter anything about the "corny jokes" at Jackson Acres...Just come and laugh with us and add some humor to our collection.  It is a fun day in the country...
